College Financial Aid Eligibility

In order to be considered for FEDERAL or STATE financial aid, the following requirements must be met:

• Complete and send the FAFSA form.
• Be a citizen of the United States or an eligible legal resident.
• Have a valid social security number.
• Be enrolled part-time or full-time in a collegiate program of study.
• Have a high school diploma or a GED (General Education Development Certificate), or pass a test approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
• Register for the Selective Service when required (males only).

In order to receive financial aid from the State of North Carolina, you must also:

• Have legal residence in North Carolina.
• Attend an eligible institution in the state of North Carolina.
• Fill out any state financial aid forms.

Undocumented students may be eligible to receive financial aid from various private sources (including scholarships, loans, etc.). Eligibility requirements depend on each financial aid organization.
