Career and Technical Education (CTE) is an integral part of the comprehensive secondary schools program in Wake County. The mission of CTE is to provide offerings which meet student needs, interests, abilities, and aspirations; and respond to actual or anticipated opportunities for employment, advanced education, and practical life application.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Course Offering Update:

We have been listening to our parents desire to have a variety of technology courses available to our student body.  In recent years we have added Computer Engineering Tech I and II, Network Engineering I and II and C++.  The Career and Technical Education Department will add two new courses next year:  Adobe Academy Graphic Design (Pilot) and Project Management.  Both courses will be available to students who will be in grades 10 – 12.

Adobe Graphic Design Acacemy:  Focusing on using InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. The project-based course will focus on print design and will give students a broad base of skills dealing with layout, vector graphics, and raster graphics.  This course will be student-centered and offer young minds the opportunity to develop their creativity, while producing professional looking print documents.  Future offerings may include Adobe Academy: Web Design and Adobe Academy: Video Design.  Download the  Adobe Graphic Design Flyer.

Project Management I:  This course will introduce students to the principles, concepts, and software applications used in the management of projects.  Through project-based learning, students will understand how to use the framework of initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing a project in authentic situations. Having experience in project management and working with project management software is the type of skill that can transfer well into many career fields and is often a skill that helps individuals rise to leadership positions.  Project Management II will also be offered in the future.   Download the Project Management I Flyer.

One other piece of good news from CTE is that we will be offering more honors level courses in the upcoming year.  We have received approval to offer all second level courses as honors, which can be seen in the planning guide.  We will also be offering two Microsoft honors courses:  MSITA Word PPT Pub and MSITA Excel Access.  Both Microsoft courses are open to all students and they are the only CTE honors levels courses for freshmen.  Email dperks@wcpsss.net for more info.
