Green Hope High School Mission Statement
Green Hope High School is a community that will provide a quality education and inspire every student to soar to success.

What is a school/business alliance? A collaboration of business, community, and school leaders committed to educating each student to be a responsible and productive citizen who can effectively manage future challenges. Their mission is to provide support and workplace realities for teachers and students.

What does a business alliance member do? Business Alliance members meet together with the principal once a month. The principal explains the School Improvement Plan and suggests programs where business people can be of great help in implementing School-to-Career initiatives. Alliance members decide which programs they can undertake in a school year.  The Alliance members use their companies' resources (not financial) and their networking skills with other area businesses to facilitate the programs. Membership is voluntary and renewable annually.

How?
  • Provide professional development
  • Support technology use and training
  • Provide resource speakers for the classroom
  • Share use of equipment and facilities
  • Participate in Career Fairs
  • Provide tutors/mentors who encourage student success
  • Offer job shadowing, internships and apprentice sites
  • Much, much more!

Career Development is an important part of high school for every student.  It is the strand that weaves every class and every high school experience together into a meaningful whole. It is a process of discovery that continues for a lifetime.

THE FIRST STEP - Self Knowledge.   Who are you? What do you like to do? What are your strengths, abilities, and skills? How can you get more information about different occupations? What does the economic market look like for employment opportunities? How much education and training will you need? How will the courses you are taking in high school help you select an occupational path?

FINALLY - Career Planning.   Set your goals.  Develop a plan to attain your goals. Is it manageable? Is it realistic? Who are the people in your life who will support your plan and goals?

You will find as an adult, you will use this process continuously. You will change. The marketplace will change. Occupations will change.

Assessments offered during high school:

  • Self Directed Search
  • Career Key
  • ASVAB
  • PSAT
  • SAT/ACT
Activities students will be encouraged to participate in:
  • Career Shadowing
  • Service Learning

PARENTS' CORNER - Parents are key to a student's success in high school and beyond.  They are the primary role model that students emulate. Occupational choices are influenced heavily by what parents do.  Encourage your student to get as much information as he/she can about future career options.

WHAT CAN I DO?

  • Talk to your student's teachers and counselors throughout their high school career.
  • Encourage your child to use the time they are away from school to build new skills and explore different opportunities.
  • Take them to work with you for a day.  Encourage your employer to promote the idea.  It is an opportunity for employee recruitment.
  • Monitor the hours your student participates in employment settings - know employment laws.
  • Encourage your child to maintain education as their #1 priority!
